Erling Skuggedal founded Viking Construction Ltd in 1964. Viking commenced with smaller renovation projects moving on to commercial and institutional work. By the 1970s Viking developed relationships with industrial clients in the forestry, mining and manufacturing sector. In 1974 Viking became a member of the Construction Labour Relations Construction Employers. Into the 1980s, Viking actively worked in markets from its home base in Prince George to the Alberta Border to the east, Fort St John to the North, Prince Rupert to the West and Cache Creek to the South. 1990s saw Viking move across the Alberta Boarder establishing new working  relationships with industrial clients. In 1993 Ron Skuggedal took over as president of the company along with the title of project manager of all company projects.

Ron Skuggedal received a degree in construction technology from the College of New Caledonia in 1974. In 1995 Ron obtained his Gold Seal Certificate for Project Manager (General Contracting) from the Canadian Construction Association. In 1998 Viking opened a branch office in Kitimat, BC. 2010 will mark Viking's 13th year in Kitimat. Rio Tinto Alcan is Viking's largest client in the Kitimat region. Other major Industrial clients include Canfor, West Fraser Timber, Telus, BC Hydro and FMC of Canada. Into 2012 and onward the future of Viking Construction is bright. With their excellent office and supervisory staff, Viking looks forward to new construction projects that lay ahead along with the continuing of building relationships with existing clients and the development of new ones.
